| A domain, or domain name is your web site's address or URL (Uniform Resource Locator) i.e., www.catsmeow.com —and yes, you have to have one ~ (a url, not a cat). |
How much does a domain name cost?
| It varies by different companies, but around $10 a year, which includes registration. Most web hosts offer a free domain name and registration when you acquire server space from them. |
How do I get a domain name?
| A domain name (which is actually "rented") can be acquired, whether you have a web site or not, from most web hosting services. A domain name can also be acquired at the time web hosting services are set-up (and is often included in the web hosting fees). In my opinion, waiting until you are ready to have a web site developed before you purchase a domain name is the best option. But, if reserving a domain first is necessary, try to choose a company that allows easy transfer of your domain in case you decide later to have your site hosted by a different company. What should my domain name be?
